Brandon got sick

On my 33th week of pregnancy, Brandon got sick. And I admit, it was tough but I had to be strong.

Last Friday morning, Brandon vomited clear liquid (which we assume was just water) and after that, he complained about his "yayay tummy," and he also got a fever, his temperature ranged around 38.5°C - 39°C. My son is very active, and very playful and it really pains us to see him crying about his tummy and shouting "help" or "yayay." John and I decided to bring him to the hospital immediately.

Good thing about toddlers, they can already express their pain and discomfort. It would be very difficult if he's still a baby and all he could do was cry and be fussy, we wouldn't know what's wrong.

Bad timing to be at the hospital

This was the first time that Brandon looked really sick (aside from the time he got mild pneumonia - which really traumatized us as parents). Previously, when he has colds/cough, or fever, we'd go to Mendero and get a check-up from his Pedia. This time, I was thinking that it looked pretty serious and that he might get admitted. So I told my husband that we'll go to Chong Hua Mandaue ER.

When we got there, we were next in line in the ER. I even complained that it took a while for them to let us in without knowing that we actually got in faster than the rest of the people who queued after us. It was such a bad timing to have an emergency, the ER is packed with patients, nurses and doctors are most likely overwhelmed, and super tired. I remember reading a news about Cebu experiencing the third wave of COVID. That time, I understood that the hospital is full and the healthcare workers are beyond exhausted. No matter how "rude" they appear to be when answering your questions or just passing you by (ignoring you), I tried to be understanding as I know they are exhausted and hungry.

Only one person is allowed to go to the ER with Brandon (has to wear some type of PPE), and it was John who went inside. We didn't have lunch when we got there, we were hungry but didn't really mind our hunger as our priority was to get Brandon treated. So as soon as Brandon got inside ER, it was already 2:30PM and that's the time I ate lunch.

Been walking so much

It was really difficult having to walk so much because my tummy is already big. And as I kept mentioning on my previous posts, it hurts so much whenever I move, especially, having to walk a lot. I thank God for maternity belts, it really helped me that day. I wrapped it really tightly, pulling it upwards so that I can move more. I also bought something for John to eat, a sandwich, siopao and water since he can't go out to eat, and he just wants something that he can eat easily.

No special treatment - I'll feel bad if they do.

I was never the type of person who likes special treatment just because I'm a woman, or in this case, I'm pregnant. I would walk, no matter how slow, I would grab and bring a chair far from other people, I would bring my stuff by myself. And in this situation, I admit I didn't really think that much about me and my big belly, I just want Brandon to get treated, and hopefully we can go home. I walked a lot that day ever since we got to the hospital. I also momentarily take turn in watching over Brandon while John rests a little bit in the car and charge up his phone.

Medicine

Brandon was given a "juice" that probably didn't taste good because Brandon would always say "yucky" every time we force him to drink the juice. He was also given a medicine for his tummy. And lastly, his urinalysis result says he has UTI - that's why he has a fever. At around 9PM, we got discharged. Thank God!

When we finally got out, we saw all of those people who lined up after Brandon got in, there are still a lot of people waiting in line to be able to go inside the ER. And it also pains me to see little kids (Brandon's age) lining up and waiting for their turn.

That night, I prayed for our healthcare workers, and for those people who have lined up to be able to see the doctor and get treated. And I thanked Him that we were able to go inside the ER and got discharged on the same day. It didn't end there, because Brandon is still sick. He is very fussy at night when he's sick. And there's nothing we can really do for him, except pray and force him to drink his medicines.

Here are some pictures of me and Brandon at the ER. The good thing is that we are inside a "Pedia" room and we can isolate ourselves in there. Still, there's that risk of getting some bacteria / viruses when you go in/out of the room.

Sneezing & Coughing

After we got back from the hospital, Brandon almost immediately started sneezing, and few days after, started coughing. We had given him antihistamine and a medicine for his cough. And praise God, he's almost cured from sneezing and coughing after 2 days.
